PCM1754: Gain error

I'm puzzled about the origin of gain error in these devices (the whole Audio DAC family, not just the 1754). I would have expected it to be a lot smaller. ±2% seems a lot for a digital device - so I must not be understanding where it comes from.

If I wanted to best gain error, which audio DAC should I choose? Or do they all work the same way and have the same error mechanism?

I would like to use it to generate the 50Hz reference for an inverter, and I need some accuracy so that devices can be connected in parallel)

Hello Ian,

The 2% gain error ( deviation from the ideal slope of the transfer function) seems to be common to all of our Audio DAC. I quickly checked and they have a typical of 2% gain error. The newer Audio DACs that we have, TAD5xxx family, such as TAD5112 or TAD5242 have smaller gain error.

You may want to look for a non audio DAC, you might find non audio DACs with much smaller gain error.

If a non audio DAC works for you, you need to post a new question with non audio DAC with small gain error in the title so it goes to the correct team. If you have any question regarding our Audio DACs you can continue here.

Looks like the newer parts might be a tad better! The audio dacs looked like a good choice for the application as I can send data to them by S/PDIF.
