PCM2912A Design with Dynamic Microphone Not Electret Microphone

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM2912A

Do I need a Preamp for the Dynamic Microphone to input with PCM2912A?

  • Hi David,

PCM2912A has an integrated mic amplifier which can be configured for +20/0dB and also an internal PGA that goes from -12dB to +30dB in 1dB steps.

  • Hi Ivan,

In my case it does not need the BIAS Voltage so would you please help me to configure the microphone input.
Please see attached data sheet for my Microphone  FB-EI-60080
It is not an electret microphone. It is a Balanced Armature Microphone.
How to configure to have + 30dB Since I had very low input result.
Thanks a lot from your help.

  • Hi David,

    You can try this:
    - Set MAMP (pin 23) to High (3.3V from Vcc); you can connect MAMP to Vccp. This will set the input mic amplifier to +20dB.
    - Connect PCM2912A USB to a PC and configure the Mic input volume at the Recording Devices menu to the desired level. This internal PGA goes from -12dB to +30dB.
You can set PGA to max and turn on mic amp (MAMP) to see if that's enough gain for your application.
    MBIAS can be left unconnected.
