Stereo headset connections

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3106

HI

I am using TLV320AIC3106 Low-Power Stereo Audio CODEC for the Headset connection.

I have 5 pins on audio port connector(circular connector) to connect stereo headset (with PTT).

Pin details:-

1.PTT ,     2.MIC,    3.MIC-COMM,    4.HPLOUT,    5.HPROUT

will this connections work for stereo head set? or

I should use separate HPLCOM, HPRCOM dedicated  for the head phone LEFT  and RIGHT speakers respectively?.

I.e An Independent return path for the speakers from audio codec IC  i.e HPCOMM

Right now i have connected MIC-COMM  to Board Signal Ground through a DC filter, CODEC HPLCOM & HPRCOM connected to signal ground.

MIC-COMM ground is shared to speakers ground pins.

i have attached codec schematics, please verify it. let me know if any modifications required ?.

  • Hi, Sesha,

Your schematic seems to be correct. However, MICBIAS has a wrong connection. MICBIAS pin is already a voltage power source, so it shouldn't be connected to 3V3_AVDD with the 2.2k resistor.

There's no need to use the HPLCOM/HPRCOM outputs in this case (they can be connected to ground as you already did in your schematic). The headset seems to be stereo and single-ended. These outputs are often used when you need a stereo differential output.

I recommend to take a look of Figure 30. Configuration of Device for Jack Detection Using an AC-Coupled Stereo Headphone Output Connection as a guide to connect the headset. Additionally, you may take a look of the following picture for more details (it shows how to connect the PTT button too):

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you still have questions or comments.

    Best regards,
