LME49720: Excess / Popcorn Noise Issue

Part Number: LME49720
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4562,

Hello TI,

I was about to choose an LM4562 / LME49720 for an audio amplifier application as their price vs performance on the face of it looks fantastic.

I have been somewhat alarmed however that in April 2015, Sept 2018 and Jan 2019, there are reports of high levels popcorn noise coming from a very high percentage of units. This noise totally ruins the noise characteristics of the chip, and I suspect the end application they are going in if the constraints are strict.

Has this issue been addressed during manufacture, or has extra post-manufacture testing been instigated since Jan 2019? Or are they still being created and tested in the same way with no change?

Thanks for the help,

Dan

  • Hi, Daniel,

Thank you for your feedback. Have you requested a failure analysis on these failure units? I mean have you contacted your local TI office and request this analysis so we can get a better approach to this issue? If this issue didn't appear during the manufacturing tests, we need to verify if it is directly associated to the IC or to the board design.

    Best regards,
