Hi Team,
We are building a product where we want to receive audio data over USB and have the option of playing the audio over a set of speakers or over an earphone based on earphone detection.
Do you think we can use PCM2912A for this application? If not, please suggest a suitable part.
Regards,
Ambuj
Hi Ambuj,
If you do not need an analog input, then I don't think PCM2912A is the best fit for this application. The output is also only intended to drive headphones and it does not support headphone detection.
Instead I think you may want to consider PCM2707C. This device does not have and ADC, but it does have a stereo DAC output and can also output digital I2S data. You could reserve the DAC output for the headphones and use one of our Digital in analog out audio amplifiers in the TAS family to drive the speakers!
Best,
Zak
Hi Zak,
My mistake, I forgot to mention that I do need a mic input. Also, I am not very keen on getting an I2S output.

Ambuj
Hi Ambuj,
In that case then PCM2912 should be a good choice, but it does not have the output power to drive a speaker directly so you will still need to use an amplifier.
Best,
Zak
