TLV320AIC1110: tlv320aic1110

Part Number: TLV320AIC1110

I read on another thread that the AIC1110 is not recommended for new designs due to the age and lack of support staff.  I'm considering using it in a design due to the fact that it appears to be the only part in this family that supports PCM and has DTMF generation built in.

If I'm building what essentially amounts to a POTS phone is there another alternative that will provide audio on the PCM interface (this is needed to connect to the FXO/DAA interface chips) and includes DTMF capability?

I don't want to design with this chip if there are obsolescence plans.  The website still shows it as active.  Additionally I have used this part in another design as a simple PCM to audio bridge.

  • Hi Chad,

Thank you for searching around the forum and doing research before posting.  You're correct that when certain features of this product are not required (many of which you're interested in) we often steer customers to a different product that still meets their needs.

The device is active and will remain active based on TI's standard product life-cycle expectations so there should not be issues there.

For your questions, you're correct that this is one of the few offerings that includes the PCM companding and other very telephony voice-centric functions.

  • Ok thanks Colin.

I have a couple of other questions related this.  Page 29 of the datasheet states "Tones from the DTMF generator block are present at all outputs and are controlled by enabling or disabling the individual output ports."  However the block diagram on page 5 shows the DTMF output being injected downstream of the PCMOUT.

Will the DTMF tones be present on the PCM output also? I need to send it back through the POTS circuit.
