LMK03318: Generator and jitter cleaner mode

Hi team,

My customer has several LMK03318 used in the development of single-board evaluation. DS shows that the device has two modes: generator and jitter cleaner. I want to know:
1. Does the generator mode suppress the noise of the input clock source?
2. If there is noise suppression effect in generator mode, is there any quantitative data on noise suppression effect in the two modes?

Hi Wendy,

both modes will suppress noise but only to different extend.

In simple words, a PLL act as a low pass filter for noise on the input. The two modes only differ in the "low pass filter" band width. Jitter cleaner mode is typically <1kHz and clock gen is typ >100kHz.

The selection of which mode to use needs to be made based on the input clock noise profile.
