TICSPRO-SW: LMK04832 Frequency Planner Solution Score

Part Number: TICSPRO-SW
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04832, USB2ANY

Hello,

I'm new to the TICS Pro tool. Went through the LMK04832 EVM User Guide. Can someone clarify what "Score" mean under Frequency Planner tab after I generated possible solutions?

For example, I was able to get a solution with score of 76.8. Assuming this is out of 100, is this good or bad?

Another question, is it possible to use TICS Pro tool to later program LMK04832 chip on a custom board (instead of EVM)?

Thank you

  • Hi Thomas,

The "score" feature is out of 100, and it very basic - it ranks the solution as the ratio of the Fpd frequency to the maximum supported Fpd frequency, represented as a percentage; in this case, a score of 76.8 derives from a phase detector of 245.76MHz, because 245.76/320 = .768 (76.8%). Likewise, a "best" score would be a phase detector of 320MHz (320/320 = 1.0, 100%) - but this isn't possible for something deriving from a 2457.6MHz or 2949.12MHz VCO. Since maximizing the phase detector frequency tends to optimize the phase noise performance, it helps to differentiate solutions where multiple phase detector frequencies are possible.

TICS Pro can program LMK04832 on other boards as long as the USB2ANY can connect to a SPI header. See below in red for pinout:
