LMK61E2EVM: LMK61E2-EVM setting

Part Number: LMK61E2EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK61E0M, LMK61E2

Hello,

One customer  gave me the feedback that when he  used LMK61xx Oscillator  Programming Tool, if he click "EZ configuration "to generate configuration automatically, he found that if use 100MHz or 50MHz or 10MHz, it didn't have waveform output.

If he used the manual mode, to change R23  (OUT_DIV) or  R26(PLL_NDIV) value  under RAW data, it could output normally.

In addition, he tried other frequency output, it could output normally, only 10/20/50/100MHz couldn't output.

So he wonder if the Programming Tool has some disadvantage about 10/20/50/100MHz output , and he hopes that he could use "EZ configuration" to generate configuration automatically instead of manual mode to change registers .

Best regards

Kailyn

  • Hi Kailyn,

That's odd that this issue only happens at certain frequencies. Has the customer tried unchecking and then re-checking the SWR2PLL box to reset the PLL after programming?

The LMK61xx Oscillator Programming Tool has actually been replaced with TICSPro, and the LMK61E0M profile can be used to program any device in the LMK61xx family with some minor tweaks to registers R21 and R22. Can you ask the customer to try with TICSPro and see if there's any difference? I believe there have been some updates to the programming sequence which might solve this issue.

    Regards,

    Connor

  • Hi Connor,

Thank you very much for your reply, yes, I advised the customer to reset PLL to try before, but it couldn't resolve the problem.

I would recommend him to use TICSpro to try again.

    Best regards

    Kailyn

  • Hi Kailyn,

Great, hopefully that will resolve their problem. If there's still any issues, could you ask them to send the register map of the configurations that don't have a proper output? They can do this by going into the "Raw Registers" tab in TICSPro or the LMK61xx programming tool, clicking "Read all registers", and then "Export register map" to generate a text file with all the register values of the device. Then I could see if I can recreate the issue on my end.

    Regards,

    Connor

  • HI  Connor,

Thank you for your reply. Two questions are needed to confirm with you.

    1. TICSPro has no LMK61E2, it has only LMK61E0.

    2. Using LMK61E0 to try, it also has no output with specified frequency.

In addition, I attached the registers configuration  with LMK61xx Oscillator Programming Tool. Please help to confirm.

  • Hi Kailyn,

Correct, TICSPro only has a profile for the LMK61E0M. R21 can be manually changed according to the LMK61E2 register map to select the desired output type. The rest of the registers should me shared between LMK61E0M and LMK61E2.

I will review the register map and test it on an EVM early next week .

    Regards,

    Connor

  • Hi Kailyn,

Apologies for the delay. I did some testing on the EVM and I wasn't able to recreate the issue. I've attached my register map that I readback from the EVM with a 100 MHz LVPECL configuration. One other thing to try is a custom LMK61E2 profile for TICSPro. It can be imported by clicking "Select Device" -> "Import User Device" and selecting the zip file that I've attached. After that, the LMK61E2 profile should appear under the user devices tab. I used this profile for my testing in the lab, and I was able to generate an output at 100MHz, 50MHz, and 10MHz with the default EZ Config settings.

If that doesn't work, can you ask the customer the following questions to debug:

    1. What jumper configuration is on the EVM?

    2. Are they using USB power or an external supply?

    3. How are they measuring the output signal?

    4. Can they recreate this issue on any other frequencies besides 100, 50, 10 MHz?

    5. Have they tried disabling block read/write in TICSPro under the options tab?

    Regards,

    Connor

  • Hi Conner,

Thank you very much, and the customer feedback that he couldn't output 100, 50, 10  with above registers configuration.

1。1. What jumper configuration is on the EVM? =>Jumper used the default configuration, no change.

    2. Are they using USB power or an external supply?=>USB power

    3. How are they measuring the output signal?=>used the passive probe and SMA to measure

4.Can they recreate this issue on any other frequencies besides 100, 50, 10 MHz?

=>30/60/70/80/90/110MHz could normally output, but these OUT_DIV don't equal to 46。If use 100/50/20MHz for test,OUT_DIV=46,there is no output.

    5. Have they tried disabling block read/write in TICSPro under the options tab? He has tried, the same results.

    Best regards

  • Hi Kailyn,

Everything in the setup looks ok, and I can't recreate the issue on my end so I'm beginning to wonder if the unit is somehow defective. Would it be possible to switch it out with another LMK61E2 unit?

Also, what happens on the customer's board when they change the N divider value and output divider values from the default setting? For example, using the default EZ config 100 MHz configuration, then changing both the N-divider and output divider to 47, 48, etc. The output divider doesn't strictly need to be 46 in order to achieve these frequencies. Does the output frequency stay at 100 MHz as expected? I can test out any configurations on my end as well if they can provide the register map.

    Regards,

    Connor

  • Hi Connor,

For example, using the default EZ config 100 MHz configuration, then changing both the N-divider and output divider to 47, 48, etc.

Yes, if changed the output divider to 47,48, it could be normally output.

But the EZ configuration is auto configured 46, so he found the problem.

What he means that if we used the clock IC, we usually used the EZ configuration, and generally we couldn't to change the output divider manually.

So he doubt if the tool has the problem with this frequency.

  • Hello Kailyn,

We are doing some lab testing and will get back to you later.

    Best,

    Andrea

  • Hi Kailyn,

Apologies for the delay, I did some more testing with the EVM and was still not able to replicate this issue. For reference, I've been using the LMK61E2 user profile (attached earlier in this thread) with TICS Pro version 1.7.5.4. We don't believe there's an issue with the TICSPro EZ configuration settings. Has the customer made any progress on their end? If they have already tried replacing the unit and are still having problems, you can reach out to me via email and we can arrange for them to ship the EVM to our office for testing. We can also send them an EVM that we've confirmed is working at these frequencies.

    Regards,

    Connor

  • Hi Connor,

Thank you very much for your reply, I would  confirm with the customer,  if he also need help, I will contact you with Email.

    Regards
