Hello,

I am new to software development for clock synchronization and using the LMK5C33216EVM evaluation board to align clock outputs. I am using the TICS PRO software with the default configuration to get started. My question is, what does the matlab runtime do to align the outputs? Is there a script I may look at or a datasheet that covers it in depth?

Hi Cesar,

Matlab Runtime is needed to calculate the DPLL filter settings (see steps 6 and 7 on the start page of the TICS Pro GUI). If you will only be programming the APLL or output settings then installing the Matlab runtime is not necessary.

To synchronize the outputs of LMK5C, you can enable sync for post dividers and channel dividers on the "SYNC/SYSREF/1-PPS" page, and toggle the SYNC_SW control toward the top of the page.

Hi Cesar,

The DPLL MATLAB script is not intended to be used outside of the TICS Pro GUI. Could you share a little more about the use case here? For most applications the DPLL filter settings only need to be calculated once for a given configuration.

Hi Connor,

I cannot much information on the intended due to company policies.

I do not plan to use TICS PRO software as I would only be utilizing the LMK5C33216 chip on our board. Hence why I am asking to see the matlab script to better understand how the algorithm works.

Understood, do you have a field application/sales representative contact at TI you can reach out to? If you'd like we can move this to a private discussion over email to discuss the use case more in depth.

In any case, the DPLL filter settings should only need to be calculated once for a given TDC frequency. For instance if you change the input frequency but can keep the TDC frequency constant by reprogramming the R and N dividers, you should be able to reuse the same DPLL filter settings.

If the issue is with programming the LMK5C device in your system, you can export your TICS configuration as a .txt file that contains all of the register contents (File -> Export Hex Register Contents).

I'll double check with my team but I don't believe the Matlab scripts are publicly accessible.

Just to confirm, for your use case you'll need to continuously re-calculate the DPLL LBW?
