BQ4802 Strange WD time-out period selected by himself

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ4802Y

I am using the BQ4802Y with its 1,5s default WatchDog timeout period. Whent de board is running, the WD pulses are sended to the WD every 10ms, but when power on, there is a 400ms autotest period without WD pulses. This works properly because of the 1,5s timeout.

PROBLEM: Sometimes in som boards, the BQ4802Y 1,5s timeout changes to 250ms by himself and the board works OK until a power off and power on cycle, when the system is reseted during the autotest and never begins to run. Once in that strange state (250ms is not a selectable period), it is imposible to configure again the 1,5s period, even powering off and disconecting the back up battery. Of coarse, the obvious solution is to send WD pulse during the autotest, but I would like to discover why does it happen.

Could anybody give any idea where to look at?
