Potential walking spur on LMX2592

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2592

I'm working on a synthesizer design that could possibly use the LMX2592 IC. I am currently evaluating a similar part from another company and I am seeing a phenomenon where there is a spur that goes across the spectrum over and over again (a walking spur). Does the LMX2592 have this issue? There isn't any mention of it in the datasheet but it wasn't mentioned for the other part either.

  • Dear Josh,

thank you for your question. A walking spur indeed ! I like the expression as it translates to indicate the frequency of the spur is changing to indicate a non-stationary signal. We have heard about certain devices that may suffer from this problem but never with LMX2592. The only hand waving explanation I can come up with is that the fraction of the DS has a very slow reapeating pattern that would change very slowly to create this walking spur.

I suspect your use case has a very  large fraction. Try to change that fraction and see how it impacts the walking spur. again we have not seen this beahavior with our device.

Let us know if we can help.

    Regards, Simon.
