AMC7836: AMC7836 DAC group output specifications

Part Number: AMC7836

Hi,

I have a question on Table 1 Recommended DAC Group Configuration, in the AMC7836 datasheet (SLAS986D –NOVEMBER 2014–REVISED FEBRUARY 2018).

As per this table, for the column AVEE = VNEG, DAC_B6 and DAC_B7 output range is shown as 0 to 5 V or 0 to 10 V and Clamp voltage connection is shown as AGND.

I assume here that output range is set by in positive range by DAC range registers (address 0x1E through 0x1F) even though AVSSB is connected to VNEG (negative voltage).

Is this understanding correct?

I want to confirm that DAC_B6 and DAC_B7 output range can be negative if output range is configured as negative (0 to -10V) and there is no limitation that it's output range should only be positive.

I have a similar question for DAC_C10, DAC_C11, DAC_D14 and DAC_D15 based on the data in Table 1 Recommended DAC Group Configuration.

Regards

Louis

  • Hi Louis,

Your understanding is correct.  Even if you have a negative supply voltage, you can set the DAC to operate in the positive range. When in the positive range, the DACs will still clamp to AGND.

If you have a negative supply, then all the DAC banks can be configured to be negative.

    Thanks,

    Paul
