ADS1292: ID Register read Error and ADS1x9x EVM issue

Hi, Dear

one customer named MegaHealth hope TI can supply a sample code to read ID register. they could not correct read ID register. the correct content of ID register should be 0x53 according datasheet whereas customer get different ID content every time if they read ID register. they said that they can read and write other register correctly. below is their schematic and code. the basic information as below:

use ADS1292 internal clock and frequency is 512K.
SCLK frequency of SPI is 1MHz.
SPI running in mode 1
Data rate is 250Hz.
Does TI has a sample code? customer said that they reference TI sample code. but I could not find it form TI web.

I also apply a ADS1292 EVM board to check the customer said. but I meet below issue associated with ADS1292 GUI software.

the USB driver is not same with EVM user guide. my USB driver as below. my OS is windows10.
there is error information when I starting ADS1x9xEVM software.
there is blank if I refresh register. refer below figure.

Thanks for the patience.

The issue with reading the incorrect device ID is usually related to the device's power-up sequencing. Please refer to the power-up sequencing timing diagram (Section 10.1 in the datasheet) for the proper timing sequence.

Please follow the instruction in the FAQ link below to download the software and firmware.

Does TI provide source code (C/C++/CCS) for the ADS1191, ADS1192, ADS1292, or ADS1292R?

Please refer to the e2e thread below that may be related to the issue you are seeing. If this does not fix the issue, I recommend reinstalling the device driver and software by following the instructions in the FAQ below.

[FAQ] Do the ADS129x EVMs work on Windows 8 and Windows 10?

As you have noticed, the COM port should show the ADS1x9x - ECG Recorder (COMx) when you have successfully installed the device driver for the EVM.

Big thanks for your quickly response.

1. yes, customer said that they refer TI sample code that you said. they point out that sample code is not exactly following the datasheet. so they following the sample code to initial ADS1292 and reset time is ~10ms. below is their initial code.

Do you have any findings or clues?

2. According datasheet, input should have an bias voltage or common voltage. but customer channel 2 input(pin 5) was directly connect to GND. in general, it should be not impact ID register content, right? just double confirm.

Hi Bill,

I am not too familiar with all the firmware for the EVM board. However, there should not be an issue if the datasheet power-up requirement is met.

1. It seems like the RESET pin is physically tied to logic high in their schematic. Instead of setting the RESET pulse to the pin, please issue the RESET command to initialize the device before reading the device ID.

2. Yes, the pin status will not affect the ID register content.

I now solve the issue with EVM board and EVM software. the root cause is EVM software need administrator right to install. the second thing is EVM software do not support win10. I install the EVM software in my personal computer and no meet any issue. the EVM board can read ID register and content is 0x53. this meet my expected.

For customer issue, I will try to help customer to debug their firmware. thank you very much!
