ADS7953: replace the competitor AD5940

Part Number: ADS7953
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4500, AFE4300

Team,

Customer report there is a wearable project which can monitor the water loss in  human body used AD5940, but meet some issue.

I promoted our ADS7953 to replace the competitor AD5940, and customer's  the initial feedback that the spec can meet their request, but need us provide a spec comparison.

Can you help with a comparison of the main parameters between AD5940 and ADS7953? Or do you have another advice alternative part?

Thanks.

  • Hi William,

Thank you for promoting our part! What exactly is the customer looking for in a part? For example, are they looking for more of a multi-channel solution? Is sampling rate important to them?

Was there any specific reason they were using the AD5940? There seems to be quite a difference between the two parts and looking on the cross reference search tool, I don't see a good alternative part to offer but if you have more insight in what the customer needs in a part, I can recommend a best option.

    Regards,
    Aaron

  • HI Aaron,

The application spec are as follows:
    1. Measure the resistance of the two resistors (resistance 1, resistance 2) respectively, the resistance measurement requires a range of 10~150K, and the actual range can be larger
    2. The fastest sampling time is 500 milliseconds to measure the resistance value (resistance 1, 2)
    3. The reference application of AD5940 is 2-wire bioimpedance: www.analog.com/.../an-1557.html

Do we have such a similar application? Is there a reference circuit for ADS7953, preferably PIN: VXO as a multi-channel analog output?

    Thanks for your support.

    Regards,

    William

  • Hi William,

It looks like there are some products that support bioimpedance measurements like the AFE4300 and AFE4500. These are Analog Front Ends (AFEs) like the AD5940. There is also an application note on measuring impedance for the AFE4300.

I am not familiar with these devices so I recommend creating another E2E post with these devices and a supporting engineer will respond. I hope this helps.

    Aaron

  • No problem, Aaron.

    Thank you.
