ADC12DJ4000RFEVM: Timeout error when Read DDR to file

Just got ADC12DJ4000RFEVM today. Running into a timeout problem when I tried to capture the data by HSDC v5.20.

Listed 3 possible reasons, but I do not know how to solve this. 

FYI. I tested ADC12QJ1600EVM in the past a few weeks. No errors and works great.

    This is usually a general timing problem between the EVM and HSDC Pro. Could you give me some details regarding your clock situation? It would be helpful to know whether you are using onboard or external clock, sampling frequency, JMODE, whether you are attempting to drive the clock input with FPGA, etc.

  • Hi Drew,

    I tried a few times regarding different clock situation, and I got the same timeout error. For example, On-board clock. Fs=4G, JMODE0, no clock input with PFGA.  

    I also tried External clock Fs=3G. JMODE1, no clock input with PFGA. 

    A few questions:

    Will the on-board cock work without changing jumpers?

    One thing I am not sure. Will the JMODE0,1,2... matter. I thought they will be overwritten each time, so it should not matter.  

    Is there a way that I can send you a screenshot?

    Ok, the EVM comes set up to use an external clock, so you will need to make modifications to the board in order to use the onboard clock. See 7.2.2 on page 18 of the EVM user guide. You'll need to add/remove some resistors and capacitors and also remove Jumper 13.

    • Remove C2 and C3, populate R171 and R174
    • Remove C60 and C61, populate C52 and C306
    • Uninstall Jumper J13

    Does the add/remove involve soldering? I have no experience  working on the board. I do not want to damage the board.

    'Populate R171 and R174' mean add R171 and 174, is that right? Do you think R174 , R174 ,C52 and C306 are still on the board. I thought they were got removed.

    If you have any video, it will help.

    Yes, the board needs soldering modification. We can do this for you, and I will work on getting you a printable shipping label if possible via email. Is the board in Boulder, CO? If so, shipping should be simple and relatively quick.

    Yes, 'to populate' is another way of saying to fill with or to place within, in this case the space where the part goes. We will have extra components as well.

    This is very helpful.  With your instruction, I finally got some data today. We will keep the board as it is for the short term, and we will do some measurement.  Because we need 3 signal generators for this default settings, we will send it back to you and let you help us to do the modification in the near future.
