BP-ADS7128: Failed to connect to MSP432E401Y device

Part Number: BP-ADS7128
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP432E401Y, , UNIFLASH, MSP432E401Y

Hello,

I am having the same problem discussed in this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters-group/data-converters/f/data-converters-forum/1095935/bp-ads7128-failed-to-communicate-using-the-gui/4070622?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=ads7128#4070622

I have an identical setup of parts: BP-ADS7128 module with MSP-EXP432E401Y launchpad board, connected to computer with USB cable via the "Debug port". I have moved JP6 to the indicated position in JP1 (5V-OTG) as mentioned in the initial setup.

The BP-ADS7128 is installed in the correct location on the launch pad board.

Reading the other thread, I understand there was some development ongoing to resolve this issue on your side. Has there been an update or resolution to this problem?

Regards,

Evan Moore

  • Hello Evan,

The Debug Port should only be used as a one time install step with a new MSP430 Launchpad. see the user guide, page 7: 3.2 UNIFLASH Programmer for MSP-EXP432E401Y Software Programming. Once this step is done, it no longer needs to be done, unless a new launchpad is used. During the UNIFLASH step, the GUI will not recognize the EVM, this is expected. As long as you get the FLASH SUCCESSFULL message, then you can move on.

From there, you should disconnect the USB from the debug port, and connect to the Data Port, as shown below. This is when the GUI should recognize the EVM and connect.

Have you reached this step? what are you seeing at this point?

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • Hello Cynthia,

I am at step 3 of "3.2 UNIFLASH Programmer for MSO-EXP432E401Y Software Programming". I have attempted this and have not seen any "FLASH SUCCESSFUL" messages. I only receive the following error message:

"Error configuring Debug Server: error=Failed to connect to MSP432E401Y device: Please unplug your hardware, then plug it back in and try again"

I have disconnected/reconnected the launch pad board several times and attempted to flash using the "Program Device" button but its has not been successful so far. Using the data port of the launch pad I get the same result.

  • Evan,

Just to confirm, The JP6 jumper on the launchpad has been removed, and moved to the middle setting of JP1? There should also not be any other changes on the launchpad, and keep the default jumper settings on all other remaining jumpers.

The Data port should not be used for programming the board.

This error, do you receive it as a result of connecting the USB, or as a result of clicking "File" > "Program Device" if the former, press cancel, and continue with the steps.

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • Hello Cynthia,

Yes JP6 has been removed and moved to the middle setting of JP1. There are no other changes.

I receive this error as a result of clicking "File" > "Program Device".

    Regards,

    Evan Moore

  • Evan,

This indicates the issue is likely due to the launchpad. Do you have another launchpad to test?

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • Cynthia,

Unfortunately I only have this one launchpad available.

    Regards,

    Evan

  • Evan,

Very well, let's first start with confirming that the launchpad is being identified by the computer correctly.

When connected, open the Device Manager and confirm that the below items are listed. Please share screenshot of what is listed

  • Cynthia,

Here is the screenshot of the open COM ports with the launch pad connected.

This one is without the launch pad connected:

  • Hi Evan,

The drivers are not installed.  Try downloading and installing the drivers from the XDS110 Support Utilities from the following page:

    https://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/xdsdebugprobes/emu_xds_software_package_download.html

The above screen shot is what you should see if the drivers installed properly.  You may have to manually associate the drivers once the drivers are installed.

    Best regards,

    Bob B
