ADS1298: Test problem

Hi,

I have customer who are having problems testing with the ADS1298. Description when the ID was read on the power-on, the return value was incorrect.

He has two boards, one that returns the value 37 and the other that returns the value 3F.

He tried command reset and pin hard reset, but neither solved the problem. However, reading other registers is normal.

The schematic is attached to the file, please help to see where the problem is.

Hi,

Please make sure to follow the power up sequence, reset sequence and initialization sequence properly.

11.1 Power-Up Sequencing

9.3.2.3 Reset (RESET Pin and Reset Command)

Usually, this happens due to the above are not done properly.

and then make sure SPI communication timings are all correct.

Make sure the power up and reset and initialization sequence are correct.

How many ADS1298 does customer have? And, how many have them read the ID: ID Control Register (address = 00h) correctly or incorrect?

Hi ChienChun,

Customer feedback:

They currently have 7 boards, each board has two ADS1298, of which 5 boards are such problems, the other two are able to read the ID value normally. The hardware and software are the same.

And according to the operation of the answer have tried, the problem is not solved.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hi,

Appreciate for following up and the info.

Wondering if they could do one more test, which may take some extra work/rework on the PCBA-

i.e. swap the suspicious ADS1298 with the good one,

in other words,

putting the suspicious ADS1298 on the PCBA that reads the correct ID, and

putting the correct ADS1298 on the PCBA that reads the incorrect ID.

Then read the ID.

After above -

If they are pretty sure that they follow the correct procedures to read the the IDs and reassure 5 out of 7 have the incorrect ID issue.

Could you ask where and when did they purchase all those 7 ADS1298? Were all ADS1298 purchased at the same time and from same source?

And, please take and provide closer pictures on the ADS1298 IC that have correct and incorrect ID.

Then I will need to discuss with the team to see what might be the next step in the process/protocol.
