TLC5510: Installation of TLC5510A instead of TLC5510, with onboard configuration retained as TLC5510

Part Number: TLC5510

Hi,

with reference to the datasheet TLC5510 figure 3 configuration, reference voltage generated is 2V.

What would be the device behavior if we install TLC5510A device instead of TLC5510 ?

my interpretation is, TLC5510A device would work as TLC5510 as the reference voltage limited to 2V only.

Appreciate your feedback and inputs.

thank you

  • Any comments or feedback ?

  • Hi Vinay,

There are a few things that would change if you replace the TCL5510 with the TLC5510A.

First the fullscale of the device is 4Vpp for the A version than 2Vpp. So if your signal may need some gain to accommodate the wider input fullscale range.

Also, you would need to make a few changes to REFT/B pins as per Figure 6 in the datasheet.

    Regards,

    Rob

  • Hello Rob,

My question is little different, I understand what should be the design changes for each of the type.

However, my question is, if my configuration on the board is as per figure 3  in datasheet, which is meant for TLC5510.

which means my reference voltage is still 2V, though TLC5510A is capable of taking 4V, for examples lets assume my signal levels are within 2V range.

What would be the device behavior if we install TLC5510A device while the configuration(figure 3) settings are related to TLC5510 ?

  • Hi Vinay,

This product is very old and we don't have an EVM to verify the differences.

Unfortunately, we cannot comment definitely if you setup the 5510A version as the 5510 will this device work the same.

My assumption is that it will and that the 5510A has a slight change internally to handle the 4Vpp fullscale signals.

But it is just a guess. I have nobody to revert to on this statement.

Is the TLC5510 not available? I see plenty in our samples stock.

    Regards,

    Rob

  • Yes, I did try to find TLC5540EVM eval board, could not find it online.

Not sure if anyone has above EVM at all.

Ofcourse we do source TLC5510 part, my clarification was to understand TLC5510A device response while assembled with TLC5510 configuration.

Thank you again for your reply and feedback.
