ADS131M08: fully isolating Analog circuitry from digital circuit using isolated dc-dc converter possible?

Part Number: ADS131M08

i currently have my design like this, where the digital ground is fully seperated from the analog ground using an isolated DC-DC converter. My question here is if the chip will work with the digital and analog ground fully separated this way, or that i should use a star ground like explained in the datasheet.

  • Hi Max,

    Welcome to TI E2E forum.

If your digital ground is completely separated from the analog ground for the ADC without any connection, the ADC will not work. ADS131M08 is not an ADC which has integrated a digital isolator. As the ADC's  datasheet describes in the layout guideline section, an entire PCB layer to a ground plane is recommended for the best performance. If a ground plane separation is necessary, make a direct connection of the planes at the ADC (AGND and DGND).

You can share your schematic/layout directly or via private message with me on this forum, I can review and send my feedback to you.

    Regards,

    Dale
