ADS124S08: Recommendation for an ADC to read a Full bridge strain gauge (datapoint @200Hz)

Tool/software:

I am looking to develop an application where I am measuring bending strain on a canoe/rowing paddle shaft with a full bridge of strain gauge.
I have specified the following:

* minimum data rate of 1 kps.

* Low power (as low as possible)

* single channel (no need to multiplex)

* spi communication

* Low noise

* Compact footprint

The ADS124S06 or ADS124S08 are good candidates, but I would be keen to see if there are more dedicated ADC for strain gauge measurement.

Hi Sylvain,

Welcome to the E2E forum! Most ADC devices are developed for multiple sensor applications. The trade-offs here is power and speed as they relate to high levels of precision. The ADS124S06 could be a good candidate, but has size and power disadvantages. I would suggest taking a look at the ADS1220. It is lower power, can reach the desired data rate and can come in a relatively small package.

If you need something with lower noise, then you could consider the ADS124S06 or the ADS1235.

Hi Sylvain,

Out of the devices mentioned, the ADS1220 has the lowest power consumption.
