ADS1115EVM-PDK: 4 second connect then disconnect of EVM. Cloud agent fails to connect.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADCPRO, ADS1115, USB2ANY, EV2400

Tool/software:

The EVM is plugged  into various PCs and displays 4 cycles of the LED 'zipper'. During this 4 second run a com port shows up along with the MSP432 Bulk Device/Generic Bulk Device.  After the 4 LED cycles the USB disconnects and the com port and Bulk Device disappear.

New Drivers were installed. This removed the unknown device in control panel.
cloud agent installed

Repeated installs fail to resolve the issue?  The EVM is 4 years old and has never been installed to date.

Since the EVM does not show up after 4 seconds the connect fails.

During the first 4 seconds...

After 4 seconds...

  • Went to install on a third machine, a win10 desktop.  Installed PAMB drivers first as admin.  Then ADS1115EVM-PDK-SW as admin. Get  the install menu and stop here:

Searching the TI site for "ADCPro" there are no relevant links to get the latest ADCPro install.  Now what?

  • located adcpro (different browser). Programmed PC but no recognition of the ADS1115EVM.  The com port (COM7) shows up in device manager and MSP432 Bulk on this machine but then drops when the LED zipper goes away.

The cloud evaluation software does not find the board.  I flashed the EVM successfully with the cloud tool but no change. Same 4+ seconds of LED zipper (COM7 available) then USB disconnect and COM7 goes away.

  • The software load of ADCpro says to load the plugin from the EVM menu. The two choices there are a signal generator and file reader.  The file reader seems to have the ability to read a text file to select the proper EVM.  Where are these files located?  I see only a few example files. Not a selection tree for TI ADC EVMs. Suggestion.. open the EVM pull down with this selection ... and point to the EVM directory, not the expamples.

  • Went to install on a third Win10 laptop.  Installed PAM drivers first. Then ADCPro software. Connected board and got an ADS1115 selection in the EVM tab but it did not last.  The board still has the 4 cycles of LED zipper up and back then goes dark and the USB disconnects.

  • I have tried all of the various links on the subject including the first one you referenced.  I have installed the PAMB driver set first on a win10 machine and then the ADCPro software.  I also did the same with the cloud with similar results. Zipper LEDs then a disconnect.

The installation instructions in some of the links are confusing.  There appear to be three drivers, boot, bulk and serial.  The order is not specified and may be important as installing the bulk removed the "Other Devices" issue and now the remaining drivers would be difficult to install since the board only stays connected for 10 seconds.  This is what happened on the first attempt at the cloud install.

Now it appears I need instructions on how to remove the mess and start over.  I have done this on three PCs so far. The only common element is that the board runs the LED zipper then disconnects the USB.

I have both the EV2400 and the USB2Any. Is there a way to use these with this EVM PDK and skip the MSP432 mess?

  • Hi Chuck,

I will take a closer look into this and get back to you.

  • Hi Chuck,

Have you been trying to run the ADCPro GUI with the latest version of the EVM (PAMB-based instead of MMB0-based)?

This older version of the EVM (hardware using MMB0 controller, and ADCPro software) has been obsoleted. The links to the MMB0 EVM version of the software have been removed from ti.com to avoid confusion.

The current PAMB based EVM (should look like the image on ti.com) should only require the PAMB board to be connected to the PC without all these ADCPro installation steps, and the following link is what should be used for the GUI:

The USB2Any or EV2400 aren't needed to use the EVM and the cloud evaluation software.

If you get the "ERROR: Connection to BULK device timed out" message when running the cloud evaluation software, once the drivers have been installed following the steps outlined in the E2E links I shared previously, the EVM should then work with the cloud GUI.

I was able to run the GUI with the EVM on different PCs without issues.

    Best Regards,

    Angel

  • I tried the cloud first prior to the software. I was not aware that this needed the MMB0 (which I have by the way, ex Tier).  The cloud failed to work with similar connection issues.  a few seconds of the LEDs then USB disconnect.  Can I program from the GUI?  Maybe I can get to it prior to it disconnecting.

  • Hi Chuck,

This does not need an MMB0. It does not need ADCPro software either, those were only needed for the old version of the EVM. For the current EVM you don't need that software, you should be able to simply run the cloud evaluation software when you connect the PAMB controller board with the EVM to your PC. If it fails to connect, following the steps from the threads I shared to make sure the drivers are installed correctly should fix that problem.

You can program the device (write to the configuration registers) and take ADC measurements with the cloud evaluation software.

Hope you were able to resolve, I tried the cloud GUI with the EVM on different PC's and had it run without problem.

    Best Regards,

    Angel
