INA260EVM: INA260EVM_GUI_1.00 does not read value

Part Number: INA260EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TI-SCB, , INA260

Tool/software:

I am using the TI-SCB connected to INA260EVM_GUI_1.00. It is hardware connected, but the value does not READ.

When I reconnect, the following NG continues to occur.

If you update the USB driver again, it will connect, but the value will not be READ.

What should I do with this?

  • Dear user,

Thanks for using E2E, and happy new year!

This looks to be mainly a firmware issue. How are you updating the driver? Please try going to "File" in the dropdown menu, and then "Program Device," and then try attempting to reconnect again. If this does not solve the problem, you will need to manually associate the driver, which Mitch shows how to do in this thread

  • Happy new year

I updated the firmware with reference to the thread above, but the following error occurs.

Reinstalling the RUNTIME installation results in a bulk timeout error.

Should I install the driver in bulk or port? I've tried both, and it's the same phenomenon

  • 이것은 DFU 모드입니까?

  • Hello,

I updated the firmware with reference to the thread above,

when you updated the firmware, did you see the green "Flash Successful" popup?

Were you able to get the Runtime error to go away? If you are still having runtime error issues, then you could try running the GUI right from the web: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/CurrentSensing/INA260EVM_GUI

Reinstalling the RUNTIME installation results in a bulk timeout error.

A bulk timeout error can sometimes occur, try pressing the reset button on the TI-SCB and/or refreshing the GUI.

Should I install the driver in bulk or port?

If you are on a windows computer, then the default drivers for bulk device and serial port are usually sufficient, but manually associating those drivers as well can help if you are having issues.

    이것은 DFU 모드입니까?

No, this is not DFU mode. For DFU mode, only LED D5 will be on, and in the device manager both the bulk and serial device will be gone and you will see something with device firmware update (either TivaWare or Stellaris).

After you launch the GUI, try clicking the connect button in the bottom left corner:

Then, the indicator should turn green on the home page:

If the text after this is green and says "INA260EVM" then you have the correct firmware. If the text is green but says "TI-SCB" then you still have the wrong firmware, and need to press File -> Program Device.... If the program device button there is clickable, then you don't need to manually enter DFU mode. If the button is grayed out, then you can try pressing connect in the bottom left corner again, or just enter DFU mode manually for a firmware update.

    Regards,

    Mitch

I saw the FLASH SUCCESSFULL pop-up.

Still shutting down READ ME causes GC runtime installation error..

Even if TI_SCB comes green and presses PROGRAM DEVICE to update the firmware, RUNTIME ERROR keeps happening saying that the update was successful. Should I update it manually?

  • I have a new TI-SCB board, so I tried a new one, but I get the same issue..

  • Hello Jay,

RUNTIME ERROR keeps happening saying that the update was successful. Should I update it manually?

You will not be able to connect to and run the EVM with a runtime error. You can try to update the runtime manually by following these steps:

    1. Go to this link: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/info/CurrentSensing/INA260EVM_GUI

    2. Go to the downloads menu from this button:  .

    3. Download the runtime from here:

This needs to complete successfully for the EVM to work. If you are having a hard time with this, try using the GUI right from the browser via this link: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/CurrentSensing/INA260EVM_GUI.

    Mitch

  • Runtime 12.0 can't download..

I tried cloud version in browser and it says TI-SCB and I can't connect again when I download firmware again..

How do I configure the HW? I'm only doing it with a TI-SCB board, do I need an INA260evm board?

Another colleague says it's possible without INA260evm board, what's right?

  • Hello Jay,

    Runtime 12.0 can't download..

That is odd.... does it have an error message in your browser for why it won't download? (ie, maybe you are running low on space?)

I tried cloud version in browser and it says TI-SCB and I can't connect again when I download firmware again..

What does it show under Options -> Serial Port... -> Ports? (ie, what is the text after the COM# in the dropdown)

It is fine to use just the TI-SCB with your own INA260 board. Here are some important notes for this case:

    • You will need to connect the GNDs between the two boards (which it looks like you are already doing)
    • You will need to make sure there are pull-up resistors on your INA260 board for SDA and SCL (as those are not on the TI-SCB board).
      • These must not be pulled up above 3.3V, as that could damage the TI-SCB.
    • You need to make sure the jumper lines are not too long, so that the I2C signals do not degrade.

I installed RUNTIME 12.0. The same thing happens.

What does it show under Options -> Serial Port... -> Ports? (ie, what is the text after the COM# in the dropdown)

    It's COM3 115200

I can read the value by using INA260EVM SW using this board.

Using the TI-SCB and GUI, the connection won't continue. Is the TI-SCB broken?

  • Hello Jay,

I installed RUNTIME 12.0. The same thing happens.

So after installing runtime, you still get an error that runtime is not installed? It may be best to just try the online version for now until we get it working.

    It's COM3 115200

There should be a description from the firmware, similar to this:

    or this:

Using the TI-SCB and GUI, the connection won't continue. Is the TI-SCB broken?

I do not think it's broken. From your previous screenshots, it looks like the EVM is not finding the INA260 when booting up (since it is connecting to "TI_SCBEVM" instead of "INA260EVM". I recommend looking at a scope shot of the digital communication to check for issues. When booting up, the TI-SCB will scan I2C addresses looking for the manufacturer and die id registers. If it does not find the expected values, then it connects to "TI_SCBEVM" instead, which seems to be your problem.

It also may be good to test with the INA260EVM board to help rule out other hardware issues.

    Mitch

  • Hello Jay,

I just had my computer updated, and now I am also getting the "GC Runtime Installation Error" when working offline, even after installing runtime again. I will pass this error up to the GC team and hopefully it can be resolved soon.

It is still working online for me, but taking longer to connect than normal.....    Not sure if this is related or not.

    Regards,

    Mitch

  • Hello Jay,

If you are having the same issue as me, then the issue can affect connecting both online and offline. The specific cause for your system would be unknown, but there is a workaround. Even after applying the workaround, you will need to wait ~80 seconds for the GUI to connect, but then it should operate normally

The workaround is to adjust the timeout in module.js from 60s (60000) to 90s (90000). The locations of this file is different for online or offline GUI use. The code is around line ~180 in most recent versions of cloud agent, however, if you are using an older version of GC Runtime, actual source line might be different.

If you are using the online GUI, the file is here:

    “C:\Users\{yourUserAccount}\TICloudAgent\src\module.js"

If you are using the offline installed app the file is here:

    "C:\Users\{yourUserAccount}\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v{MajorVersion}\runtime\TICloudAgentHostApp\src\module.js"

OR if your gcruntime is v9 or older, then it would be here:

    "C:\Users\{yourUserAccount}\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v{MajorVersion}\win32\TICloudAgentHostApp\src\module.js"

    Regards,

    Mitch
