3857.Video Input Block Diagram.pdf

Hello,

I am interested in recommendations for an NTSC/PAL video decoder.  Please see attached for block diagram.  The application is taking up to four (4) NTSC/PAL video inputs, decoding to one of many possible digital output formats, and going to two camera interface ports on the i.MX53 Freescale processor.  The goal is to be able to display any two (2) of the four (4) video inputs at any one time on our LCD display.

This decoding device can come in one of two forms:

1)       2:1 MUX at Qty 2 per assembly

2)       Dual 2:1 MUX at Qty 1 per assembly

Optional item is to have internal hardware de-interlacing available in the device; however, this is not a hard requirement.  Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Any feedback or input is welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks and best regards,

Paul

  • Paul,

The TVP5158 could be could choice, but keep in mind that the TVP5158 has only one pixel clock for two channels.  The ouput clock is regenerated in the ouput formatter is not line locked to the input source.   There will be some variation in the horizontal blanking interval but the active video interval will be constant.  I would closely compare the TVP5158 output formats to that supported by the IMX3.  The TVP5158 has only one input for each video decoder channel.

Other options if two separate line locked clocks and fully compliant bt656 interfaces are required:

    -  One TVP5154A - 4 chan video decoder with separate line-locked clocks for each channel.  There is only one input per video decoder channel.

    -  Two TVP5147M1s for two port support.   Internal MUX could support multiple inputs for each decoder

    - Two TVP5150AM1s for two port support.  Internnal MUX could support two inputs for each decoder.

Note that the comb filters used for Y/C separation in the TVP5147M1 and TVP5158 are better than those used in the TVP5150AM1 and TVP5154A.

  • On the TVP5158, there is one decoder for each input. Are the decoders dedicated to the input port, or can any channel go to any of the decoders internally? If any of the channels could go to any decoder, it is conceivable that you could use two output streams and select different video channels by swapping internally. From what I could tell on the datasheet, however, it looks like they are dedicated to one specific channel only. Please advise.
