RE: need some help on THS1206EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS1206, THS1206M-EVM

Dear Sir,

I have been facing same problem as Mr. Kiran in this post: http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/precision_data_converters/f/73/t/236138.aspx

I gave a sinusoidal signal of 3V between AINP and AGND. RefM and RefP were 2V and 4V respectively. AVdd was 8V. But the output D0 to D11 was 0. i.e there was no shift when I observed it on the CRO.

Are there any other connections to be made on the kit? I would be glad if you post a simple circuit for a normal analog input.

  • Hi Ananth,

    Happy New Year to you!

The input range to the THS1206 in the singled ended configuration is limited to VREFM and VREFP.  Any analog input below 2V in your case will report a full scale negative output, so depending on how you have the device configured, this will either be 0x000 or 0x800. An external reference of 2V to VREFM and 4V to VREFP is actually outside the normal operating range - these should be limited to 1.5 and 3.5V in order to achieve the stated data sheet performance levels.

By page 2 and 3 of the THS1206 data sheet, the AVdd supply is limited to 6.5VMAX and nominally 5.25VMAX - taking the AVdd rail to 8V may have permanently damaged the device.  Please send along a schematic of how you have your controller connected to the THS1206M-EVM and we'll see what we can do to help you make some headway in your current project.

  • I am providing an sinusoidal input ( 0.2 V) to the ADC .

kindly point the connections to be done in this image:
