Need Updated TSW1200 USB Drivers for Windows 7 - 64 bit Machine

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB3410

Please forgive the reposting of this question but the answers provided in an earlier thread  (http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/103996.aspx) appear to no longer work.  For that reason I'm repostin my question from the end of this thread:

This installation procedure does not work on my Windows 7 machine. I followed the process outlined by Richard earlier in this thread but there may be some confusion over the files to use.

1) 1st installation: Slic406a.zip --> .../slic406a/Volume/setup.exe

2) 2nd Installation: slic428.zip --> .../slic428/TI_WDF_USBUART_SINGLE_DRIVER_TI_V3.3b_wrapper/Setup.exe

3) Copied files over from VCP file.zip --> umpf3410.i51 & usbuard3410.inf into the .../Common-32 and ../Common-64 directories in this file path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments Inc\TUSB3410 Single Driver Installer\Windows\tiinst\TUSB3410

4) Ran C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments Inc\TUSB3410 Single Driver Installer\setup.exe.

5) Restarted my computer but I still couldn't find the com port assigned to TSW1200. (Are restarts required between any steps?)

I've seen additional downloads such as slic407.zip but haven't tried them. There have been a lot of broken links but I concluded the files in steps 1-3 are correct. In each case I followed the link to the TI website to download. I did copy the VCP files from the attached zip file in this thread. Is there a single executable available. If not, what steps am I missing?

One note: Our computing center may have removed supporting drivers. For example, I couldn't get my Xilinx USB download cable to work. It turned out I was missing the device driver called "Jungo". Once it was installed my download cable worked. Are there any other support devices/driver required other than those installed using the process outlined above?

Thanks,

Schuyler

  • Hi,

    The steps you describe above sound good to me.  You mention that you followed the process I posted previously - could you provide a link that exact posting so I could check it?  The reason I ask is that I had to repost and correct the posting slightly since the first time I posted it.  Sometime after the first time I posted this procedure there was a bug found by the TI USB group and they re-made the VCP (Virtual com port) installer.  But when the re-made the VCP installer, they put the second setup.exe that you need to run in a different location in the hierarchy of files that were copied over by the first setup.exe.  Some people had trouble finding the correct setup.exe to run for the second part of the process so I downloaded the new installer myself and went through the process to make sure it all still worked and reposted the instructions.  It sounds like you found the second setup.exe ok in your step 4 above, so I don't think that issue is causing you any problem.  I would also like to double check the literature numbers you post.  sllc406a I can see is the installer for the TSW1200 GUI.  But I'd like to check the posting you are looking at for the other lit number for the VCP download and trace through the steps again on my end if i have to.

    Oh, and one other thing I found when I ran through the process: I had to make sure that I selected 'run as administrator' when I ran the setup.exe programs.  If I didn't 'run as administrator' then it didn't work.  Now that I recall the process, I am guessing this might be your issue.

     Regards,

    Richard P.

  • Here is the link to the posting I referred to:

    http://e2e.ti.com/support/data_converters/high_speed_data_converters/f/68/t/103996.aspx

    When installing the software I did 'run as administrator' but that didn't do the trick.  I appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Schuyler

  • Hi,

    Thanks, I see that this posting you are looking at is recent enough to include the link to the current location of the VCP installer.  I also see your question at the bottom of that posting.  Since you have that posting and now this posting, I may go back and delete your posting at that location since we are using this thread now - if you don't mind.

    I looked to see that the newer link to the VCP installer is still active.  I haven't uninstalled the TSW1200 GUI on my machine yet so that I could retrace all the steps on my machine again, but I will if we don't find what the problem may be.

    What do you see in hardware device manager when you plug in the USB cable to a powered on TSW1200?

    (editing my post, since some material got chopped off somehow)

    We are looking for the TSW1200 to show up in hardware device manager under com ports.  I'm pasting or attaching a picture below - but I think the picture is what caused my post to get chopped off previously.

    Also, please check in the control panel => Programs and Features for evidence that the USB VCP stuff installed.  There will be two entries, one of which is Texas Instruments TUSB3410 drivers.

    Finally, do you know if VISA com port accesses are working on your computer?  The VCP stuff we are installing makes the USB connection look like a virtual com port, and the TSW1200 GUI itself simply does VISA port accesses to the com port.  We have had occasions where other software hijacked the VISA driver on the PC.  On lab PCs in particular, some Agilent equipment like logic analyzers will overwrite the visa driver unless the equipment software is installed with an option of 'install as secondary'.  Check your Windows System32 folder for the visa32.dll and visa64.dll drivers.  The VISA32.dll driver is often about 8K in size.  I have seen it replaced with a much smaller file that does a redirect to someone else's VISA driver and that cuts us out from being able to access it.

    Regards,

    Richard P.
