PGA970EVM: Sine Output

Part Number: PGA970EVM

I followed the instruction in "sldu023.pdf", but no output on TP70,TP71,

is there a setup-file (script) available to setup the board for working ?

I need to test an 4 wire LVDT sensor for demonstate the function of the PGA970.

How I know the EVM board is running?
When I disconnect the EMV board from the USBANY, I can write e.g. the data table with the write button without any error !

How I can check the firmware inside the EVM ?

  • Hi Voker,

    The default values on powerup should work fine to allow you to run the waveform generation. Before seeing an output on the primary connection you need to enabled the Analog Power. Click on the button under Analog Power that says "Shutdown mode" it will turn green and say "Out of Shutdown Mode." At this point you should already see a waveform of 5Khz. Before populating the waveform table, click "Stop" to stop the waveform generation and make sure that there is no output. Next populate the waveform table, and write the values to the PGA970. Now you can click the "Generate" button and the waveform should appear as configured in the settings above.

  • Hi Scott,

    I try this already, but nothing happen. How can I check, the software inside the PGA970 is running correct?
    Is there a possibility to reset to default?

    When I switch of the power supply also everything looks like working fine! No error appears e.g. when I read the ADC…

    For me the EMV board looks like dead, supply current is only 10mA@12V.

    Voltage 7,5V,5V,3.3V ok.

    TP6 = 3V

    TP9 = 1,92V

    P1A,P2A = Usupply/2

  • Hello,

    As long as the USB2ANY is connected, you will get no errors if you try to read or write any registers. However, if the PGA970 is not powered (or even connected) the data will always be read as 0, and if you write something and try to read it back it will only read back as 0.

    The supply current should be around that value, so it seems that it is working properly.

    Do you currently have any firmware written to the device? Can you read the FRAM and dump the contents to a file to send to me? I will attach the hex file associated with the reference firmware release so that you can also load it on your board to try.

    PGA970.hex

    Can you also please describe the jumper settings you are using?

    I also noticed that in the first screenshot you have chosen single-ended mode, but in the second screenshot it is differential mode for the waveform generation. Which would you like to use, and have you changed the measurement connections when attempting different modes?

  •  Hi Scott,

    We found an article from Victor Tasevski

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/pressure/f/998/t/577226

    There is an detailed description, which button has to be set/Reset.

    This makes it working.
