DAC8568: DAC80508EVM software installation problems on Win'10 64 bit.

I am glad you received the EVM. 

We have seen this issue before.  Please uninstall the DAC80508EVM software and any runtime engines still on the PC, then install the labview runtime engine 2015 SP1 64-bit.  When you install the RTE, make sure you launch the installer with the "Run as administrator" option.

Then, reinstall the DAC80508EVM software.  Make sure you install it with the "run as administrator" as well.

Thanks for your help / answer.

No success.

I've removed entire old packages and DAC80508EVM soft.

Then I've installed: 2015 SP1 64bit NI RTE, restart, installation of DAC80508EVM soft as Admin, restart

and finally the error message is the same as above.

USB driver is installed (HID type user defined device I think).

The first, NI RTE 2014 32 bit should be installed because DAC..EVM soft is in 32 bit version.

After that software hangs-on the following screen (see file).

I think you should know this screen, no solution has been proposed to this moment.

I've spent many hours for nothing, but my time is a very valuable as well.

Hi Andrzej,

1. Your point about the RTE is correct.  Initially, we elected to not include the RTE in the installer to reduce its file size (including the RTE makes the installer >200MB), but seeing the frustration this has caused has led us to question that decision.  I am pushing to get installer for this software recompiled to include the RTE, though that will take a few weeks to get it through sign-offs.

2. If Windows Defender is blocking the startup of the software, then I suspect it is in regard to the network port the software uses to interact with the RTE.  Most LabVIEW software uses a network address to allow multiple threads to communicate.  I recommend you add an exception to Windows Defender.  If it is the firewall settings, please open network port 3363 and 3364, which are commonly used for LabVIEW software.

I have marked your post as the solution so it will be easier for future users to find it.

When you get a chance to evaluate the analog performance of the device please post another thread with any questions.

I've unblocked/open I/O ports UDP and TCP No. 3363-3364.

It did not help at all.

Maybe the ports numbers are not correct or them type (TCP, UDP ?) or the problem is OTHER.

Please note that if I disconnect PC from network the DAC80508EVM program is working OK too  if I previously switched off Virus protection.

As you see the network and ports blocking state is not relevant for "Loading.vi..." error.

Maybe in the future I'll have some questions to you regarding DAC80508.

The example is - how to connect external reference voltage to this DAC since its output is as default also configured as output?

In DAC8568 chip the internal reference was disabled by default.

Hi Andrzej,

The network port is not really to access the web or anything, but the port is used to allow process threads to communicate with each other.  If you add an exception for the software exe in Windows Defender, can you still run the software with Defender enabled? 

In regards to the reference, we anticipated the case where the user wants to use an external reference.  The reference current capability is fairly low (±5mA), so during startup, the internal reference and your external reference will conflict with each other but only with this low current.  The DAC will either sink or source current depending on the voltage of the external reference. As long as the abs max table is not being violated, there will not be any damage.  This conflicted state will exist until the reference is disabled.

Adding exception of DAC80508EVM.EXE program do Windows Defender is doing nothing. It is not good solution of our problem.

I've tried some other solutions. No success at the moment.  But I think at this time it isn't so important. 

Only turning off the "Real-time protection" toggle switch in "Virus & threat protection settings" section helps.

In regards to the reference. It is very strange and unusual solution to connect output to output 

especially given the fact that external source of reference voltage is unknown

e.g. it may be very strong output of OPA or super precision/delicate/expensive external reference voltage source.

Hi Andrzej,

I am not sure why the antivirus tool does not allow the GUI to run.  On the machines I have tested it on, (TI PCs, my personal PC, other customers) we have not seen this as a wide-spread issue.  That being said - you are not alone, as we have seen at least one more e2e thread about this.  So I suspect it is a combination of a few factors.  I am going to bring this up at the National Instruments forum and see if they have any additional info.  Are you aware of any other anti-virus settings that you have customized to your PC? If this is a corporate PC, sometimes IT departments will block certain functions - are you aware of anything like that on your PC?

Setting DIV=1 and GAIN=1 are not recommended.

Why?

I very need this setting. What is the problem with these?
