ADS8588S: ADS8588 settling time

Part Number: ADS8588S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MUX506,

I am using ADC ADS8588 for multiple channel acquisition with a front end mux MUX506 followed by a high slew rate op-amp AD744. We are finding that a settling time of 60us is required before the ADC accurately acquires the value. For +/-10V input range. CAn u please advice on the same..

  • Hi ANISH,

    ADS8588S has an integrated low-pass filter (LPF) with 24kHz bandwidth for +/-10V range, hence the settling time required to properly settle the signal can be calculated:

    t = 11.78*T = 11.78*6.6 = 78us (11.78 is No. of time constant for 16-bit settling, T is around 6.6 for 24kHz filter).

    There are additional time needed for your external multiplexer and other components. If you can not reduce the switching/sampling frequency, you will have to use a ADC with a wider BW LPF or without internal LPF.

    ADS8686S:  16-ch, 16-bit ADC with 39kHz or 376kHz programmable internal LPF.

     ADS8568:    8-ch, 16-bit, simultaneous-sampling ADC without internal LPF.

    Let me know if you have further question, thanks.

    Regards,

    Dale
