AFE4404EVM: AFE4404EVM

Part Number: AFE4404EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4404

Hi,

I have the same problem that is listed at (remove the spaces between the letters in order to get https) h t t p s ://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters/f/73/p/898581/3338590?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=afe4404%252520evm#3338590

I followed all the instructions.  I can access the AFE44044 EVM and I see that it currently has version 1.3.   When I try to update the FW to version 1.5 I get the following error:

1. How do I solve this problem?

2. Is it mandatory to update the EVM FW to version 1.5 or can I leave it at 1.3?

Thanks,

Raz

  • hello Raz,

    Welcome to TI e2e forum!

Regarding the issue, can you please try the following to update the firmware?

    1.       Launch the FW updater EXE located at the location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\AFE4404 EVM GUI\Firmware Updater).

    2.       Update the Firmware to v1.5 by following section 6 in the User Guide.

    3.       Please make sure that the firmware update is successful.

    4.       Close the Firmware Updater EXE.

    5.       Disconnect and re-connect the EVM.

    6.       Launch the AFE4404 EVM GUI >> Go to Device Configuration Tab >> Global Settings Tab>> Ensure the FW is upgraded to v1.5

Please help us with the below questions if the above-suggested method did not help:

    1.       Did you see a success message in the firmware updater app after upgrading the Firmware? Please share a screenshot of the Firmware Updater Exe after upgrading the FW.

    2.       When you launched the AFE4404 EVM GUI, were you able to connect to the EVM again? If not, please send a screenshot of the GUI error you are facing.

    3.       Please send a screenshot of the Device Manager when the above error has occurred

  • Hi,

" Did you see a success message in the firmware updater app after upgrading the Firmware? Please share a screenshot of the Firmware Updater Exe after upgrading the FW."

The FW update failed because the EVM is not recognized by the FW update utility even though the GUI can see the EVM.  I tried running the FW update with and without the GUI running.  I also tried running the FW update program with and without ADMIN rights and that did not change anything.    Please see screen shots below which show the file that I used and the problem.

    Port is assigned correctly

EVM is recognized by the GUI - NOTE: I tried running the FW update with the GUI both running and not running.  I got the same result in both cases.

    Version of the USB installer:

FW update does not see the EVM - No Device connected message

    Thanks,

    Raz

  • Raz,

Regarding the firmware upgrade without the GUI, please refer section 7 in the user guide.

First, connect the PC end of the USB cable.

Keeping pressing the SW2 switch on the EVM while plugging in the micro-USB interface cable to the J1 microUSB connector on the EVM.

You can release the SW2 switch a couple of secs after plugging in the USB cable to the EVM.

This will place the MCU in BSL mode and you should see 1 device connected (refer figure 44 of the user guide).

You can then follow the instructions to update the firmware.

  • I finally got the FW update to work.  I had to press the reset button (S1) multiple times while continuously pressing the BSL update button (S2) until the FW update saw the board.  The first time I ran the FW update it failed (see screen shot below).  Then I disconnected and reconnected the EVM and this time I did not have to press S1 or S2.  The EVM was identified by the FW update utility and then I ran the FW update again and it was successful the second time.

Now when I open up the AFE4404 GUI and I check the device configuration I see FW Revision 1.5

Screenshot from first attempt - with S2 pressed while pressing S1 multiple times

    Screen shot from second attempt

    Thanks,

    Raz
