TSW14J57EVM: TSW13J57EVM TRIG OUT for DAC connection

Part Number: TSW14J57EVM

Hi,

I am using a TSW14J57EVM+DAC3XJ8 boards. I am transmitting a repetitive 4K samples long OFDM signal into an external power amplifier doing some specific linearity tests and in order to improve the scopes signal to quantization noise I use acquisition averaging. The Signal BW is high and the scope's internal trigger mechanism is not accurate enough, so I need a trig out from the pattern generator.

And there comes the question- Is there any possibility to generate a TRIG OUT signal from the TSW14J57EVM when it is connected to a DAC EVM? I see there are trigger options when using an ADC, but they are shaded when using a DAC. (It doesn't have to be a nicely placed SMA, If it is just probing a specific point on the EVM that would be great too).

Thanks

Amir

  • Amir,

Currently, the Trigger Options are not supported in the TSW14J57revE’s DAC. You might be able to use the “Binary Pulse Mode” feature to produce a Trig out pulse signal, every time the DAC data rolls over. This feature is available with an internal HSDC Pro release and the next future external release. This “Binary Pulse Mode” feature can be enabled by adding some INI parameters to the required DAC INI.

If you are interested in trying this, can you tell me what DAC ini files you would be using and the data rate?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for the prompt response. Our data rate will be either 491.52Msps or 737.28Msps.

As for the INI file, I'm currently using DAC3xJ84_LMF_442

    Attaching from C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\TSW3XJ8X GUI\Configuration Files

Hope this is what you mean.

    Regards,

    Amir

  • Amir,

See attached files for getting trigger working.

  • Thank you Jim,

    It works.
