DLP3021LEQ1EVM: DLP3021LEQ1EVM send 2D pattern

Part Number: DLP3021LEQ1EVM

Hello!

What options for sending a 2D pattern are there in the DLP3021LEQ1EVM?
To send a 2D pattern, do I need to change the FPGA firmware?

I need black and white static 2D patterns of several pixels with mirrors on and off.

Best regards, Vladimir Zhukov.

  • Hi Vladimir,

The DLP3021LEQ1EVM can project a 2D pattern, custom images, or 25Hz frame rate video. So it can support your requirement to send a black and white static 2D patterns.

To get your patterns loaded onto the EVM, you need to use the DLP Composer GUI software. In the GUI, you must select all the content that is to be stored in the flash memory of the EVM. DLP Composer converts the video into the DMD native bit plane format, and then bundles this converted video data into the complete binary flash file. So if you all of your patterns can fit into a single binary flash binary file, you will not need to update the binary/firmware file at a later time. Each pattern will have an address that is called by a host (such as DLP Control Program) to tell the FPGA which pattern to display.

The number of images/patterns that you'll be able to store into the 2Gb flash memory depends on the amount of detail and which pixels are on/off.

You can use DLP Composer now without the EVM to upload all of your test patterns into the project, then build the flash binary file (.IMG) to see how large of a file is generated. Note, the .IMG is compressed, so it does not imply that a 2Gb sized .IMG file will fit into the 2Gb flash memory. For reference, the .IMG file pre-built for the EVM consists of ten images and a high detail full color eight second video, and is approximately 95MB in size. The ten images alone only account for about 2MB of that, so as long as you don't require video, you can store far more images/patterns.
