DLP5531Q1EVM: Use case for Symbol Projection with HDMI

Part Number: DLP5531Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP5531LEQ1EVM

Hello,

I came across this video featuring a demo of the DLP headlight, and would like to understand what solution can be used specifically to control the output - if there is a third-party controller and programme that controls and sends an HDMI feed to the DLPC230 controller? I'm currently working on a symbol projection use case, with the intended outcome similar to what is in the demo.

Also would there be a particular setting in the DLP Control Program that can adjust the image skew for projection?

Thanks!

  • Hi Wei,

The DLP headlight requires expects either a 24-bit Parallel RGB or OpenLDI video signal (at 1152x576 resolution with a 60Hz frame rate). To your point, the video data host is not part of the DLP headlight chipset, as this video data typically comes from the ECU or an intermediate application processor. There are a variety of third-party companies that can help to develop the video data side of the solution. Refer to and download the DLP-3P-SEARCH ( https://www.ti.com/tool/DLP-OMM-SEARCH ) for details on these third-party companies with DLP software experience.

The DLP5531LEQ1EVM is equipped with an HDMI-to-Parallel24Bit converter on the formatter board. This allows you to use your PC as the video data source to emulate what the ECU or application processor would be doing in the vehicle.

DLP Composer and DLP Control Program currently do not include any feature support image skewing or keystone correction. The content will need to be skewed in-advance by the ECU or application processor.
