Leaving a pattern on while powering off the board

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to confirm if it is safe to leave a pattern on while powering off the board. I understand that the best practice is to float and park the mirrors before powering off, but he wanted to hold on one pattern on the DMD while detaching the board from it. The other thread stated that "Failure to correctly power down the DMD can cause the micromirrors to become stuck".

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello Danilo,

Welcome back to the E2E forum!

Unfortunately there is no safe method for leaving a pattern on the DMD while the board is powered down or when the DMD is disconnected from the driving DLP chipset. If the proper power-down sequence for the DMD is not followed, the mirrors will not be properly parked and the device will not be able to boot correctly. As you have quoted, this may cause the mirrors to become fixed in place, causing permanent damage to the DMD.

If there is another way we might support this customer's request please let us know, but leaving a pattern on an unpowered DMD will not be possible.

    Kind regards,

    Austin
