DLPDLCR230NPEVM: Request for Assistance

Part Number: DLPDLCR230NPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC3436, DLP230NP

Dear Texas Instruments Customer Support Team,

I trust this message finds you well. I am reaching out regarding my recent purchase of the DLPDLCR230NPEVM, and I am in need of your assistance.

I have been diligently working to integrate the product into my setup, following all provided instructions and consulting various resources. However, I have encountered persistent challenges in achieving the desired functionality. Despite my best efforts, the product does not seem to be operating as expected.

I followed the quick start procedure in the User guide, the tutorial posted by Austin Snyder on the product forum and looked at other topics on the product forum.

  • The Raspberry Pi 4B was configured in a headless setup using TeamViewer with VNC as well as SSH (with the same result).
  • I ensured that I2C and SPI was enabled on the Raspberry.
  • Found and changed to the correct I2C bus address.
  • Ensured that the config.txt file was unchanged and correct.
  • An adjustable power supply was used to meet the voltage and current requirements (5V, 3A). Following some tips on the product forum I increased it to 5.2V to ensure that the power supply was sufficient. The D_P5V and Proj_ON indicators were both on. The projector however did not display the DLP logo followed by the test pattern image. It did seem to flash something, but it was too fast to see what exactly it was.
  • I also explored the possibility of it being that Wiring Pi was used in the gpio init script but seeing as this comment was two years ago, I assumed this issue is resolved and then looking at the indicators, I think I found part of the problem:
  • The D_INIT_B turned ON initially.
  • D_HOST_IRQ – stays ON.
  • D_DONE keeps flashing.

Looking at the user guide this may indicate that the DLPC3436 was unable to boot and might be stuck in a loop?

I reflashed the controller with the flash_write_controller and the flash_write_fpga program (for good measure). It flashed succesfully but indicated the files were identical to the original. I restarted the device and had the same issues according to the LED indicators and nothing displayed on the projector.

In light of these difficulties, I am seeking your guidance to explore potential solutions or alternatives. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Valkyrie Jacobs
