DLP670S: DLP6750Q1EVM connection issues to Windows PC

Part Number: DLP670S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC900,

We are having some issues connecting our recently purchased 4bit phase modulator DLP6750Q1EVM to a Windows PC. Originally, using the latest version of the DLPC900 Lightcrafter GUI resulted in the software not being able to update the status of the DMD. Currently, we are able to connect the DMD to the 5.0.0 version of the DLPC900 GUI. Using this version, we are able to successfully connect the DMD and lock to an external source (as seen in the attached image). However, when trying to display an image on the display (according to page 25 of the rev7 manual), there is no effect to the laser according to our sensor, meaning the image doesn't change even when displaying a noisy video on the display. Below, I attached some problems that we are having that may be related:

  1. When setting up the lightcrafter software according to the documentation, after inputting the correct display settings (for either HDMI or Display Port), the associated Parallel Port Configuration seems incorrect. I have attached an example configuration below. Specifically, when using dual pixel mode on display port, the total pixels per line is said to be 3376 and active pixels per line is said to be 1280. In addition, the total lines per frame is said to be 1066 and the active lines per frame is said to be 1024. This doesn't seem to match our device properties. Similar errors occur with hdmi.
  2. When attaching the mirror bias display, we are limiting our dc power supply to 1 V and 100 ma. When hooking up to the dmd, as a safety mechanism, the power supply lowers the voltage to be < 1V (around 0.44 volts). This may be causing the DMD to not have proper voltage?

Any insights on where we may be having an error with our DMD setup would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Victor

  • Hello Victor,

I am reaching out to a member of our team to discuss this further with you. Thank you!

  • Hello Victor,

I have a few suggestions regarding the issue with Video Pattern Mode.

    1. We have noticed that the EDID that is provided in the Installers v6.2.0 or prior only supports resolution of 2560x1600 @60 Hz (DisplayPort) in Video Pattern Mode.
I would suggest to the following:
      1. Re-program the EDID (instructions in the "\\DLPC900REF-SW-5.2.0\DLPC900REF-EDID\DLP670S-C900REF-EDID\Readme.txt")
      2. Select the resolution 2560x1600 on your PC display settings:

      3. Check both Video Mode and Video Pattern Mode. Let us know if the Parallel port configurations still do not match your source.

    2. I also see that the 'Sequencer Abort Status Flag' is reported. Could you please share the pattern sequence you have created for Video Pattern Mode?

    3. If the above testing resolves the issue, we can provide the EDID which supports the native resolution of DLP670S DMD.

    Thank you,

    With regards,
    Aishwarya

  • Hi Aishwarya,

Thank you for your help. Section 1. resulted in a more reasonable looking parallel port configuration for display port. However, when following the manual, we are still unable to display images/videos on the DMD and modulate our laser source. Currently we are following the steps from the user guide and then playing a youtube video on the secondary display. Please let me know if you have any insights!

    Best,

    Victor

  • Victor,

Do you not see the video displayed when the system is in Video mode as well? Please share the following:

    1. screenshot of the GUI with 'Status' and 'Parallel Port' information.
    2. 'Display Information' from your PC.

I would also suggest testing with another video source, maybe a video generator, if possible.

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Aishwarya

  • I ended up resolving this issue with a combination of reprogramming the edid and making sure to the tighten the dmd screw all the way. This doesn't seem to be mentioned in the user guide, but the dmd does not work unless fully screwed in.
