DLPLCR4500EVM: EVM doesn't connect via USB

Part Number: DLPLCR4500EVM

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am trying to connect to a lightcrafter 4500 EVM via USB. I've installed the lightcrafter GUI but the "connected" light remains red. I've tried 3 different cables and computers, each time the device manager does not update when I unplug/replug the USB cable, does this indicate the USB interface is defective?

Thanks,

Gabriel

  • Hello Gabriel,

    There are several possibilities:

    • If this connected previously to a different system, but will not connect to this system it is possible that older drivers are missing in a newer environment (i.e.  Win 11).
    • The FW/bootloader has become corrupted.
    • The USB interface is defective.

Could you give a brief rundown of the provenance of this EVM?

    Fizix

  • Hi Fizix,

This is a brand new EVM (unpacked yesterday). It boots up and displays the demo screen fine but I haven't yet been able to get it to connect to any PC via USB.

    Thanks,

    Gabriel

  • Hello Gabriel,

Thank you for letting us know.

    Here are some questions:

    • What OS are you using?
    • When you plugged the USB in, did the system indicate that a device was detected?
    • In device manager, is there a device with an error beside it?

    Fizix

  • Hi Fizix,

I have tried a windows 10 machine, a windows 11 machine running on parallels, and a macOS machine. In all 3 cases there is no indication that the device is detected (no pop up, no peripheral devices under "This PC" on the windows machines, and no change to the device manager).

There are no devices with an error beside it in device manager, suspiciously, the device manager doesn't update when I unplug/replug the USB cable from the PC, as if the change isn't being registered by the PC at all. I've tried both available usb ports on the PC. I also tried adjusting the mini-usb end of the cable while the cable is plugged in to the PC to check it wasn't just a bad connection.

Is there a way to update the firmware without the USB connection? Are there any switch or jumper states that could lead to such issues?

    Thanks,

    Gabriel

  • I just tried plugging in a different device using the same mini-usb cable/pc combination and in that case the PC makes a sound when I plug/unplug the cable and the device manager refreshes as well. Still no luck with the EVM unfortunately.

  • Gabriel,

I am going to send a friend invite so you can get the purchase information to me.
