dlp5500 verses 0.7 xga 2xLVDS DMD

Hello,

firstly im new to DMD DLP technology.

im just reading through the DLPS013B document for the DLP5500, it states the following in the last paragraph of the first page;

"The CMOS memory array is written to on a
column-by-column basis,"

im assuming the rest of the sheet is correct, in that there are 1024 columbs by 768 rows.

Can you confirm that this is different or not to the 0.7 DMD on my discovery 4000 kit?

from the DMD 101 intro to DMD technology it shows data being loaded into the DMD row by row.

can you confirm the block size of the 0.55 DMD DLP5500, in no of rows and no of columbs?

    Welcome to DLP&MEMS forum.

    What is mentioned the DLPS013B is correct.

    Couple of basic things for your understanding -

    Two important parts in a system are DMD it self and the DMD controller (DLPCxxx). The DLPCxxx device supports certain types of DMD devices you can get from the www.ti.com/mems. So when using a DMD you will have to use the 'controller' that supports the DMD. Moving back to your specific question -

    0.7 DMD is supported by Discovery Kit DDC4000 controller chip

    0.55 DMD DLP5500 supported by the LightCommander has DLPC200 controller chip

    The discovery controller DDC4000 is very powerful and allows user to control the DMD at block level where as DLPC200 doesn't allow you to that level. The DLPC200 can allow user to control upto bit-plane-level i.e., entire DMD at once not blocks within.

    On the resolution part

    Both 0.55 DMD DLP500 and 0.7 DMD are XGA devices so the resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels. Each block in DLP5500 is 48 rows i.e., 48 x 16 blocks = 768. Again, you must understand that there will not be be a direct user control to the block level on DLP5500 because of the DLPC200 controller.
