DLPC300 not booting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC300

The DLP we have (light engine removed) was working for a long time (~8 months). After that, we had some issues.

1. We have a hard time connecting it to the computer. When we turn the power on, the LEDs on both top and bottom board are working. However, the top board led only show green (two green led). When connected, we see the other led blinks between green and red. However, it is almost by chance, by turning the power on and off until we get it connected to the computer. This was not a big issue since if we are just patient, eventually, it will work.

2. However, this week, the top board seems to not work at all. After turning on the power, the green and red leds on the top board just blink once and never turn on again. The bottom board leds are still working. The green is always on while the red blinks around every 10 seconds. The computer cannot detect the DLP.

We have tried disassembling and putting the two boards together but no luck. Anyone can help with this issue?

  • Eli,
#1. I suspect power issue; hardware gets connected iff the DM365 processor on the system board (top board) completes booting.

#2. Please check at the connector between bottom and top board are set firmly. You can remove all the cables to hardware accept the power cable and check if it works.

  • Hi Sanjeev,

    Thanks for the reply.
#1. It is probably due to our power supply which kinda not trustworthy. But we were able to use it for a long time though. Unfortunately we can't check it now since the DLP is not booting anymore.

#2. I have tried this before and just recently. I removed the top board and all cables. Plug in the power but still no luck. There was no change on the DMD.

Do you think this is due to some voltage surge in our power supply?

    Cheers,
    Eli
  • Eli,

You can probe the driver board if it is drawing current, if not then may be connector is broken, there are two power input points, JP1 which we typically use, the other one is J11, check if board powered with this input. If driver board is electrically damaged then sorry we can't help.

  • Hi Sanjeev,
    Thanks for the reply.
The board is drawing current. It draws 0.397 A. When we remove the top board, the current it draws is 0.298 A. Based on this, I can say that the connections are good, both the power connection as well as the connection between the top and bottom board. Are these current readings good?

By the way, we are using the J11.

    Cheers,
    Eli

  • Hi Eli,
The other reasons could be DLPC300 firmware corrupted somehow. You can search on the forum for not booting issue related discussion.

  • Hi Sanjeev,

I tried booting the device from SD card. I followed your instructions here e2e.ti.com/.../338497

After powering it, still no luck. D1 blinks and stays on but the D4 blinks once and stays off. Nothing on the DMD, the green LED on the bottom board is always on, while the red blinks every 10 seconds. Do you have any other suggestion?

  • Eli,

The 10seconds blinking pattern clearly showing that the DLPC300 firmware is corrupted or DLPC300 is not booting could be due to some other reason unknown at this point of time.

  • Sanjeev,
I've got the D1 (red) and D5 always on. When it was working fine, the D1 is blinking between red and green while the D5 (or probably D4, can't remember) stays green. But the next day, after pull the power plug and plug it again, both D1 and D5 doesn't turn on. They just blink once and stay dead. Did it mean anything?
