DLPNIRNANOEVM: Chassis Assembly - Fiber Input Module

Hello,

I'm trying to attach a fiber input module chassis assembly (part #2513928) to a NIRscan Nano evaluation module (DLPNIRNANOEVM), and an excessive amount of white cement anchoring the slit plate on the module (see the attached photo) is interfering with alignment, causing the assembly to rock and not fit precisely. The chassis was machined by MillTech (a supplier recommended by TI) from TI design drawings, so it is not an issue with machining. I'm assuming that misalignment will be a major issue, and am writing to ask if scraping away excess cement is an option, or would this void warranty, cause damage from static electric charge, or some other problem? If scraping away cement is not a viable option, would I be able to return the module for one with less excess cement?

Has MillTech provided a recommendation on how to fit the chassis with their machined part?

Hi Philippe,

Thanks for getting back to me. There is no recommendation from MillTech, as attaching the chassis to the spectrometer is straightforward. As an F.Y.I, the chassis that MillTech sent me is an over-run from a TI order. Please see the attached files, which show:

A. spectrometer and chassis side-by-side

B. "Head-on" view of spectrometer alongside chassis, showing the side of the chassis that connects to the spectrometer.

C. Side-by-side comparison of the lamp assembly and the chassis. The lamp assembly may have a slightly larger opening than the chassis, which allowed for a snug fit. However, I am 100% sure that the chassis would fit perfectly if there wasn't excess cement.

Hi Chris,

Our team has agreed for the replacement of the module as removing the excess white cement can be risky. I have sent you friend request, kindly accept it and I will let you know the procedure for the replacement.

Hello Mayank,

Thank you for your kind offer of accepting a return. However, one small issue has come up, I accidentally broke plastic pins off inside two of the three standoffs at the bottom of the unit. I am attaching a photo in which you can see the white plastic inside the standoffs (denoted by red arrows). No damage occurred to the module since the pins broke off while the standoffs were removed. I was attempting to create "feet" for the module in order to anchor it inside a black box - for our analysis, neither the module nor any cables can move while samples are being scanned. Otherwise I've done nothing to the module except remove the lamp housing and lightly screw the fiber-optic chassis to the module (in order to protect the opening to the collimating lenses). Is this a deal-breaker on the return?

Hi Chris,

I am still not sure which pins are you talking about. There are no plastic pins attached to the 3 standoffs in EVMs which I have with me and hence the confusion.

Can you also verify the functionality of the EVM to make sure that there is no damage in the working of the EVM.

The EVM is functional - there is no damage to it. I bought the plastic pins separately. Apologies for the confusion, but I wanted to alert you that the two standoffs will have to be replaced on the returned unit.
