    Hi Art,

    This device has both a driver and a receiver, so it may be considered bidirectional. I assume you're looking for a device where both sent and received signals are on the same line/pin. Such a single-wire interface sounds more similar to IO-link or LIN. I don't believe that RS-232 allows for such half-duplex connections. 

    Alternatively the half-duplex options of the two-wire differential pair RS-485 interface might be what you are looking for.

    Let me know if any of these sound like a match, or if I've misunderstood your needs here.
