Hi All,

We have to control the DRV8825 stepper motor driver by MCU. That is the interface. Also we have to control RCD-24-1.20 LED driver by I2C programming through a DAC. Here, we are connecting different color combination of 5-6 high current LED bundle on the output of above mentioned LED driver. We have rotational device setup which will connect the various combination of LEDs(color) bundle with this single LED driver. There fore this maximum current is changing in that LED line. we have to include a over current protection circuit on that LED line like a fuse to protect LEDs. but notice that the maximum current on this line is changing. There fore we can not proceed with fuse. we are looking for a solution for above mentioned problem. Do we have any IC that are protecting a line from over current and rated current can be programmed through any interface?

Hi Kunal,

Operating voltage is varying because of different forward voltage of different color LEDs(controlling 0-1.2A by programming the DAC and giving analog voltage on the RCD-24-1.20 LED driver). But range will be 0-31V.

Hi Ameenu,

The output current can be limited by varying the reference at analogue dim at Pin-2, right ? Why do you need additional overcurrent protection device with programmable overcurrent threshold ?

Hi Rakesh,

Yes, but that is for a protection of LEDs to avoid any unwanted circumstances. Just consider case like if that pin 2 get any noise, there will be a chance to get higher current than desired current .right? we would place fuse even in known current line. right? it meant for a protection of high current LEDs like a fuse.

Hi Ameenu,

Please consider TPS2660 eFuse and configure the current limit of the eFuse by dynamically adjusting the current limit resistor using TPL1401 or TPL0102.

Hi Rakesh,

The issue is we have to provide 9 to 20 ohm resistance ILIM pin of TPS2660. But wiper resistance is high(25-50ohm). so then how we achieve this requirement at ILIM pin?

Hi Ameenu,

The end to end resistance of TPL0102 is 100kOhm which covers most of the Rilim range for TPS2660.
