TPS65987EVM: Configuration tool crashes when I try to connect using FTDI

Hello team,

I am running the configuration tool on a windows 10 laptop. I have tried with both the TPS65987EVM and a USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM. Whenever I try to run a command that uses the FTDI interface the program closes instantly. For example when doing an address sweep or an SPI Flash read.

I also cannot find the device coming up in my device manager.

Have you any experience with this issue or any suggestions.

Hi Kevin,

I saw cases where this FTDI IC is not programming/behaving sometimes. I'd recommend to use either Dediprog (https://www.dediprog.com/product/SF100) or Aardvark (https://www.totalphase.com/products/aardvark-i2cspi) to program the flash. The GUI allows you to use Aardvark as the adapter.

Hi Peter,

I am not convinced that this is an issue with the FTDI IC as the program closes whether the EVM's are connected or not. I have also tried two different EVM's with the same result.

Hi Peter.

To add to this I tried it on a different windows 10 laptop with the same result. With no device connected the GUI crashes whenever you run something using the FTDI. Is this expected?

Hi Kevin,

Can you uninstall the 6.1.2 and install 6.1.1 version first? See if device manager able to detect that.

It looks like FTDI driver wasn't install correctly.

Hi Peter,

I have had some luck on a new laptop using 6.1.1 and updating the drivers using the ones on the FTDI website.

I can now see four USB serial ports in device manager when I plug in the EVM. I can read the SPI but I get exceptions when I attempt to access i2C and It cannot find the address.
