DS90UB954-Q1EVM: 4k 60 fps video stream

Part Number: DS90UB954-Q1EVM

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer is following the documentation extracted from FPD Link product overview (03_Ting Ye_FPDLINK_2017.pdf ).
He wanted to know if he can transmit a 4k 60 fps video stream Raw by using this architecture ? That will mean 4k30 for each serializer ?
He thinks its possible because a pixel RAW is 10bits and 3840 x 2160 x 10 x 30 < 2,318Gbs < 3,2Gbps

Thanks for the confirmation.

  • Hi Art,

A 953/954 pairing can support a video payload rate of about 3.3Gbps, which corresponds to an image sensor at around 2MP/60fps or 4MP/30fps. The 953 serializer can also support a 4k 30fps image sensor, since its calculated video payload rate is less than 3.3Gbps. To calculate, use the following equation:

Video Payload Rate = (Horizontal Active + Horizontal Blank) * (Vertical Active + Vertical Blank) * BPP * Frame Rate * Additional Overhead (Extra ~10-25%)

If your customer wants to use a 4k 60fps image sensor, then ask them to contact their local TI sales representative if they would like to discuss roadmap solutions that are not available to the public yet.

    Best,

    Justin Phan
