Can you elaborate on what your question is here? Do you suspect that this black screen problem is related to the 928? If so, what has led you to this conclusion? Does this problem only happen when setting the time in your Android OS?

Hello Casey,

1. Yes, I suspect it is related to UB928. When the black screen appears, I just set the 0x01 register of UB928 to 0x06 through I2C, and the display will return to normal.Resetting UB927 does not restore 100%.

2. At present, it is found that black screen is easily triggered when setting Android system. When the black screen is displayed, it is normal for the device to project the screen on the computer through USB, so there is a display on Android.

Hello Tenglong,

When you set the time inside the Android interface as described, what specifically does this do in relation to the display interface? Does the PCLK going to the 927 get interrupted? Is there any I2C transaction sent to the 927 or the 926? Any other event which could trigger a change in behavior to the SERDES?

When the screen goes black can you also probe the LOCK pin on the 926 and check if it is going low?

Finally, can you please provide a register dump of 927 and 926 in the normal state vs. the black screen state?

1. The solution we use is QCOM-->UB927~~UB928-->lvds display
2. When the screen is black, there is always a signal on the RxCLKIN+- of UB927 and TxCLKOUT+ of UB928.
3. UB927/UB928 are initialized only when the system starts, and there is no I2C operation in the middle.
4. The LOCK pin of UB928 is always high when the screen is black, and the backlight PWM will also change at this time.

The backlight PWM uses Enable GPIO control from UB927 (GPIO0) of UB928 (GPIO0)

Hello Tenglong,

Ok then it sounds like the black screen issue here is caused by the backlight PWM going away. I assume that the backlight PWM is controlled by GPIO from the SER side? Can you please probe the BL PWM signal at the SER side and check if it is going away when this issue happens?

The backlight problem has been ruled out. The backlight always has a signal when the screen is black, and it is also effective to adjust the backlight when the screen is black.

I don't see any immediate issues in the schematics or reg dumps that would lead to a black screen here. Can you please check if there is any power supply interruption occurring to the 927 or 928 during operation? Probe the power supplies to the device and trigger the black screen event while checking to see if there is any glitch or dip in the VDD supplies or in PDB. Also, have you ruled out that the problem could be occurring downstream to the 928? Presumably the 928 LVDS is connected to the TCON for the display. Can you please check if issuing a reset to the TCON of the display without resetting the 928 can recover the issue? It could be that somehow the TCON is getting stuck - issuing a digital reset to the 928 will cause the LVDS output to temporarily go away and then come back which may also be effectively triggering the TCON to reset and clear the issue.

1. The power supply is always on during the operation of 927 and 928 without interruption.
2. I found that there is no signal on the TxOUT0, TxOUT1 and TxOUT3 pins of the 928 when the screen is black. Available on TxOUT2 and TxCLK.

Hello Tenglong,

Ok so from your description it sounds like the 928 LVDS output is all low except for the TxOUT2 and TxCLK lines which would imply that the video output is still coming from the device, but it is only sending black data along with the video sync signals (since sync signals are all send on TxOUT2).

From your reg dump it appears that the regs are exactly the same between the black screen case and the normal case so no, I do not see any way to detect this via register. We need to focus on why this is happening in the first place.

In the black screen state can you also probe the LVDS input signals to the 927 device as well to check if they have the same behavior as the 928?

1. In my UB927 datasheet, 0x12[6] is Reserved.
2. I searched for "Pass RGB" in the specification, there are related settings in 0x4[4], do you mean this bit?
