TUSB8042A: HD3SS3220's USB3.0 port operation

Part Number: TUSB8042A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS3220

Hi. JMMN

With your help, I made a test board and the USB worked fine. By the way, USB3.0 PORT operates as USB3.0 on one side and USB2.0 on the other side.

Again, I request circuit diagram analysis, and I would like to ask for quick advice.

The schematic has been sent to you by personal mail.

Thanks.

  • Hi Cho,

As you may recall from the earlier schematic review, USB_VBUS is a detection input and should only be high when an active host is connected to the hub.  C257 and C258 should be 0 ohm resistors since you already have the TX caps on the other side of the switch.

Please be careful of the routing on the upstream port if it is going to two places (regular upstream and Micro B) to minimize stubs.

    Regards,

    JMMN

  • Hi. JMMN

    Thank for your reply.

In the circuit, c257 and c258 are connected to HD3Ss3220, but there is no TX CAP.

Due to this, it is questionable whether the EXT USB port operates as USB3.0 on one side and is recognized
    as USB2.0 when turned over.

I changed C257 and C258 to 0 and connected, but the usb port still works as USB3 and USB2.

I want to operate an external storage device with USB3 regardless of front or back.

I want to know if there are any parts in my schematic that need to be corrected.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Cho,

Ok, I understand your issue now.  Caps between hub and mux should not impact the results, but I don't see any obvious issues in the schematic.  Are you leaving the mux in I2C mode?  Which cable direction works at USB 3.0?  Can you check that the DIR output of the HD3SS3220 is changing when you swap cable orientations?

  • Hi. JMMN
    thank for your reply

I have an i2c connected, but I rarely use it. Is there any way to check with i2c? It is possible to measure the dir voltage of HD3ss3220. I wonder what the difference is in the voltage of dir when connected with usb3.0 and when connected with usb2.0.

    Thanks
  • You can check the cable_dir bit in the registers.  Please dump the registers for USB 3.0 case and USB 2.0 case so I can compare.

    Thanks,

    JMMN

  • Hi Cho,

    Any update here?
