RS485 Half Duplex or Full Duplex Selectable

Hi,

We want to implement Software selectable Half duplex/ full duplex mode RS485 interface.

As far we have seen, we have half-duplex or full duplex transceiver.  Do we have any such software selectable transceiver implementation from TI?

    Hi SRC,

    I'm not aware of any such device that has this selectable functionality integrated. My initial thought is that this could be done externally with FETs or solid-state relays that would connect the two full-duplex pairs together to achieve half-duplex functionality. 

    I'm not sure if this would be a prudent design however, as it introduces complexity without adding obvious benefits. A full-duplex system in most aspects supports the same and additional functionality that would exist in a similar half-duplex one. If the physical connections exist for full-duplex, I struggle to see the reason to limit the nodes to half-duplex functions.
