DP83822I: Compatibility of non-F variant

Part Number: DP83822I

Hi Team,

Our customer intends to migrate their current DP83822IF design to DP83822I. The datasheet mentions the only difference is the 100Base-FX (fiber) support, which is not necessary for the application. With regards to the migration to non-F part, are there any programming, registry set-up or other differences that should be reviewed?

Is customer using copper of fiber interface today with the DP83822IF part ?

If customer is using copper interface with the IF part, i guess the I part should work without any changes.

Many thanks for your response. Just for reference, does this also apply vice versa? I mean provided that the fiber support is considered, designs with the I part can also work with the IF part? Or are there any changes needed for that migration?

Hello Jejomar,

The I part is copper only. Copper to fiber migration will need enabling the fiber mode. I assume the required changes on the hardware including terminations are either provisioned or made.

In either cans Copper to Fiber -> or Copper to Fiber, the required hardware changes have to me taken care.

Sorry for I haven't been clear on my last response. Our customer's application does not need the fiber support. They just need to confirm if either design would work on copper interface to expand product availability and procurement. Will the designs with I part directly work for IF part for this purpose?
