PCA9306: I2C connectivity in star topology with different voltage level.

Part Number: PCA9306
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9617B

Dear Mr/Ms,
In my design, the I2C connectivity in star configuration as below:
I intend to use 8x slave devices, 1.8V on port A, the upper chain with 4x devices to 3.3V on port B, the lower chain with 4x devices to 2.5V on port B, the frequency of SCL is 1MHz.

Could you please advise solution for I2C bus run at 1MHz and translator 1.8V to 3.3V, 2.5V in star configuration?
Thanks and regards,
Toan
  • The PCA9306 can be used in such a star topology. But it is a passive switch, so you have to check that the 1.8 V device is able to drive the current for all pull-up resistors, and that the VOL/VOH of all devices are compatible.

I'd recommend a buffer like the TCA9617B (see section 9.2.2.of its datasheet).
