I would like to know if the SN65DP159 and TMDS181 are pin compatible?

They appear to be so and we have an existing design which uses the TMDS181 and would like to use the SN65DP159 optionally.

The FPGA transceivers are A/C coupled, so it seems possible?

Hi,

Do you have a block diagram you can share for your design? The TMDS181 is designed for DC-coupled HDMI while the DP159 is designed for AC-coupled HDMI or DP++.

David, our HDMI in and out of the board are DC coupled HDMI, so I think you answered the question.

We might be able to use the SN65DP159 in place of the TMDS181, but we would require A/C coupling caps added between the device and the HDMI conenctor?

Hi,

The difference between the DP159 and the TMDS181 is on the input side. For both the TMDS181 and the DP159, the output is DC-coupled.

You can use AC-coupling on the output of both the TMDS181 and the DP159, but then you would need external 50-ohm termination to 3.3V between the DP159/TMDS181 output and the AC coupling caps.
